PicoSure is a Picosecond laser, which boasts more effectiveness and safety that traditional lasers. Picosecond lasers refer to the pulse duration of the laser, which is one-trillionth of a second. Picosure is used to treat pigmentation, acne scars, enlarged pores and acne.
This shorter pulse duration is said to give the picosecond laser increased safety, higher efficiacy and reduced damage and discomfort as compared to traditional Q-switched lasers, which are nanosecond lasers (one billionth of a second).
The Picosecond laser is very versatile and can treat a variety of pigmentation related and certain skin conditons, including:
WHAT CAN I EXPECT DURING A PICOSURE LASER TREATMENT?
Patients will only experience a mild pricking sensation during the treatment. A topical numbing cream and a cold air blower will be used during treatment in order to reduce any discomfort. Generally, this is well tolerated by patients. The entire treatment should take around 15-20 minutes.
ARE THERE ANY SIDE EFFECTS? IS THERE ANY DOWNTIME?
In general, there are few side effects associated with the Picosure laser as it is considered a safer choice than traditional lasers. The risk for PIH (post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation) is also much lower.
