A double chin, otherwise known as “submental fat”, is a condition where there’s a layer of fat that forms under the chin.

What causes a double chin?
People believe that double chins are mainly due to someone being overweight. While this is true, you don’t actually have to be overweight to have a double chin.
There could also be other aggravating factors like someone’s genetics or having looser skin due to ageing.

The skin loses elasticity as we age, which can lead to saggy skin that causes a double chin.
- Diet and weight
While weight gain isn’t always the cause of a double chin, it is one of the reasons why you could have one. A diet high in calories, processed foods and unhealthy fats can cause weight gain and eventually a double chin.
- Genetics
Genetics may play a role in developing a double chin. Those with a family history of skin with poor elasticity or double chins are more likely to get a double chin themselves.
- Poor posture
Poor posture can weaken the muscles in the neck and chin, which causes the surrounding skin to loosen as they lose elasticity. Over time, this contributes to a double chin.

The Picosure Laser is so named because of its picosecond laser – the pulse duration of the laser is one-trillionth of a second. This patented technology allows laser beams to penetrate deeper into the skin to allow for effective collagen production.

The settings of the pico laser has to be adjusted to fit the patient’s condition, and a good doctor should be able to tweak accordingly.

Potenza
