A double chin, otherwise known as “submental fat”, is a condition where there’s a layer of fat that forms under the chin. People believe that double chins are mainly due to someone being overweight. While this is true, there could be other aggravating factors like someone’s genetics or from having looser skin due to aging and sun exposure.
Double chins are generally due to weight gain. Other factors include ageing, where the skin loses collagen and elasticity and tends to sag, causing someone to look like they have a double chin. Some patients may also be genetically predisposed to having a double chin due to lacking in skin elasticity.
