You can lose weight with Saxenda® and keep it off as well.
Saxenda is an injectable prescription drug intended to help people lose weight and keep it off, including obese children aged 12 to 17 and adults with excess weight who also have obesity-related medical issues or concerns.
Saxenda should be used along with a lower-calorie diet and more exercise. Saxenda® and Victoza® have the same active ingredient, liraglutide, and should not be used together or with other GLP-1 receptor agonist medicines.
• It is not known if Saxenda® is safe and effective when taken with other prescription, over-the-counter medicines, or herbal weightloss products
• It is not known if Saxenda® is safe and effective in children under 12 years of age
• It is not known if Saxenda® is safe and effective in children aged 12 to 17 years with type 2 diabetes
Saxenda is prescribed to aid with weight loss in:
- adults and some children who have obesity
- adults who have overweight who also have a weight-related condition
This medication is intended to be a component of a long-term weight management strategy that also involves calorie restriction and increased physical activity.
Saxenda basics
Liraglutide is the active ingredient in Saxenda. (An active ingredient is one that contributes to a drug's effectiveness.) It is a member of the class of medicines known as GLP-1 agonists. The drug is packaged as a liquid in an injectable pen with prefilled needles.
